Our lesson program at Walking Tall covers a wide range of needs for the individual riders. From 5 years old on up, all riders are given the same basic instruction on horse care, tack, balance in the saddle and then on into the different gaits of the Tennessee Walking horse. Safety always comes first, and a lot of time is given to the proper handling of the horses on the ground as well as in the saddle. “Getting your seat” or balance in the saddle is paramount and much time is given one on one to ensure each rider is comfortable and balanced on the horse before we move on to other skills.

The lesson program also works hand in hand with our training program. When a customer puts their horse in training with us, we parallel that training with a lessons program for the owner so in the end both horse and owner come together with the owner understanding the proper cues, both leg and rein, to properly ride their horse.
Lessons include plenty of time on the trail, as unexpected things can happen and we try to prepare each rider for just that. Just like our training program, each horse and rider are given as much trail time as they want as horses can act very differently away from the barn and in unknown environments.

Walking Tall offers both private and group lessons. Initially, private lessons are encouraged as skill levels vary and one on one time is important to determine when a rider is ready to be “on their own”. Lessons are offered Tuesday through Saturday at a variety of different times.
